How to Enable the SignMetrix Plugin on BrightAuthor Presentation

The SignMetrix system provides analysis tools for your digital signs. This analytics system tracks events and triggers in your BrightAuthor presentation, allowing you to monitor how your sign is performing at the endpoint. This is a very customizable system, allowing you to choose what events in your presentation you want to post to the SignMetrix system. Example events include touch screen product selectors or the time duration a person interacts with your sign. The system also allows you to retrofit your existing BrightAuthor presentations and add a new analytics capability. SignMetrix integrates the BrightSign Control Cloud, providing easy configuration of your analytics system and your BrightSign players. SignMetrix automatically sets up your players’ location, time zone, name, and store.

Note: The SignMetrix system is compatible with BrightAuthor Connected/Content Cloud/Control Cloud.

Configuring the SignMetrix System

Follow the steps below to configure your SignMetrix analytics account for a BrightSign player.

STEP 1

Sign into your SignMetrix system and select ‘Licenses’

STEP 2

In the licenses dialog, select and copy (Ctrl-C) your License Code. This code will be used in your BrightAuthor presentation to post events to the SignMetrix system automatically.

STEP 3

The next step is to download the SignMetrix software to your computer for use in the BrightSign presentation.  Click on the Download button on the left side of the interface.

STEP 4

On the SignMetrix for BrightSign page, click on the Download button. After the download has completed, unzip the package to your BrightAuthor presentation folder.

STEP 5

Once you have downloaded the software, it’s time to add your BrightSign players to your SignMetrix account. Click SETUP. SignMetrix allows you to add your BrightSign players individually or, multiple players through an Excel file or, by connecting directly with your BSN.cloud network account. To synchronize and connect with your BrightSign network account, click SYNCHRONIZE WITH BRIGHTSIGN NETWORK. In this step, you sign into your BrightSign network account and select the player(s) you would like to add to the SignMetrix system.

STEP 6

Enter your BrightSign Network account information and click FETCH PLAYERS

Note: You can also add players from multiple BrightSign network accounts.

STEP 7

After clicking FETCH PLAYERS, you should get a list of all the BrightSign players in your BSN.cloud account. Select the player(s) you would like to add to SignMetrix and then click SYNC PLAYERS. The player(s) is now added to the SignMetix system.

Note: SignMetrix uses the BrightSign player Description as the SignMetrix Store name and the BrightSign player Name as the SignMetrix Stand name.

STEP 8

Click on Stores in the left panel. This will bring you to the Stores list. You will see your BrightSign players in the list. You can edit the details of each Store or Stand by selecting the Store or Stand and editing the options on the right panel.

Adding SignMetrix Software to BrightAuthor

The SignMetrix software consists of a BrightAuthor plugin. With the plugin and HTML widget with the SignMetrix URL, you can track any BrightAuthor event or trigger. Obviously, you probably don’t want to track all events, so determine which events you would like to track, i.e. a touch event for a product.

STEP 1

Create a new BrightAuthor presentation.

Note: You can retrofit an existing presentation. Follow these steps below new presentations.

STEP 2

Add the SignMetrix plugin you downloaded earlier to Presentation Properties > Support Content > Script Plugin.

Note: BrightAuthor requires that you use the exact plugin name, in this case, SignMetrixMessage

 STEP 3

Add the SignMetrix HTML widget to a new Image Zone. 

Select Layout > Add Zone and call the new zone SM Zone. This zone will be invisible so you can size it small and place it out of the way.

 STEP 4

Add the SignMetrix analytics URL to the HTML widget. Add your SignMetrix License Code to the Query String text box

Adding SignMetrix Plugin Events - Example

The SignMetrix system uses a plugin message and HTML widget to send events to be analyzed. This requires you to add SignMetrix events every time you want an event or trigger to be tracked.

STEP 1

Add a new Video or Image zone. You may already have a second zone, in which case, use that one.

STEP 2

Select the Content mode and switch the zone to Interactive.

Add an event trigger you would like to track. In this example I am using 2 touch events. In my touch events I made 2 touch regions. When a user touches the top of the screen one event triggers, if a user touches the bottom of the screen another event triggers.

STEP 5

Now that the presentation is ready let’s add the SignMetrix Advanced Command.

Select the event to track and click Advanced in the right panel and select Add Command.

Select Send > Plugin Message. Select the SignMetrixMessage plugin.

There are three SignMetrix message categories: TOUCH is for single triggers like a touch screen and, PICKSTART/PICKEND which are used to calculate flight dwell time from a device like a Nexmosphere presence sensor.

For the single TOUCH example below use the SignMetrix plugin message syntax:

For PICKSTART PICKEND dwell time add another Live Text widget with new commands. The first PICKSTART event starts the timer and transitions to the next Live Text widget. When the screen is touched again the PICKEND is sent with total dwell time calculated on the SignMetrix system.

STEP 6

Publish your presentation to your player.

SignMetrix Real-time Data

Once your player is running with the new presentation and is connected to the web, event data will be posted to your SignMetrix Account.

Sign in to your SignMetrix account

STEP 2

Click Dashboard.

STEP 3

The SignMetrix plugin events in your presentation will automatically increment on the dashboard screen. Product names will be incremented and/created if they are not present. The system automatically knows where your player is using location and time zone data from the BrightSign Control Cloud
